For the next 60 years, the modest building provided space for medical treatment to residents of this rural community as well as patients from southwestern Ohio, who gained access to the facility with the opening of the Simon Kenton Bridge in 1931. Because tuberculosis was an extremely contagious disease, those infected were not allowed to live and exist among the general population.
